The
practical driving Test (Car)
The driving Test is straightforward and has been designed to see if you
can drive safely know the Highway Code and can demonstrate this through
your driving
What
will the test include?
Firstly you will be asked if you would like your driving instructor or
whoever has been teaching you to drive to sit in the rear of your
vehicle. And if you would like them to listen into the debrief at the
end of the test.
The test starts with an eyesight check (if you fail this, your test
will be terminated) you must be able to read a number plate at 20.5
meters or 67 feet.
After the eyesight check you will be asked two vehicle safety
questions. You will then be examined on your general driving
ability. The examiner will give you directions which you
should follow. The test will last about 40 minutes. Throughout the test
your examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving.
You can make up to 15 minor driving faults and still pass the test (16
or more in failure). However one serious or dangerous fault and you
will fail the test. During the test you will be asked to carry out two
reversing exercises, chosen from
. Reversing around a corner
. Turning in the road
. Reverse parking
You may also be asked to carry out an Emergency stop exercise.
Note
: From the 4th October 2010
you will only be asked to carry out One reversing Exercise, but there
will be an approx 10
Min Independent drive
After
the test the examiner will tell you if you have passed or failed, and
on request will go through your performance during the test.
Driving
Test standards
All examiners are
trained to carry
out the test to the same standard, they do not have pass or fail
quotas. So long as you demonstrate the standard required you will pass
your test.
